Charles Spencer Chaplin was born on 16 April 1889 to 20 hoursin a suburb of London. His mother, Lily Harley, was an actress in a comedy. His father, also an artist of music hall, left the family when Charles was still small. A serious problem of laryngitisended the career of the young Lily Harley, forcing CharlesChaplin artistic debut with only five years old.
